FOODย  PANTRYย  COLLECTION

For those of you interested in the results of our “Food Pantry” collectionย this past Saturday (at our Annual Membership Meeting), the standing-room-only crowd of approximately 240 people providedย $400 in cash or check donationsย and 243 pounds of food items.ย ย THANK YOUย to all whoย participated!!!ย  ย Your cooperation madeย this event a success.ย  ย You can plan on us doing thisย again at our 2026 annual meeting.ย

THANKย  YOU !!!

Our thanks, also, to all the members whoย donate theirย time to the organization–just as the board members do:ย  the Directors, Coordinators, Managers, Committee members, etc.ย  All 100+ of youย are truly appreciated.ย  You are what makes this organizationย run as smoothly as it does.ย  ย We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.ย  Again…THANK YOU!!!

If you have anย interest in filling any listed position above, or joining any one of our committees https://kcseniorsoftball.org/?page_id=9940 , please let us know.

2025ย  FINALย  MEMBERSHIPย  COUNT

The total KCMSSL paid membership count for 2025ย was 950….a slight decrease from the 2024ย figure of 977.

So what does this mean?ย  ย It means ourย Marketing Committee is requesting your assistance.ย  We, obviously, want toย attract more members…young or old.ย  We want to targetย 7 majorย areas: Community Centers,ย Gyms,ย Media Outlets,ย Sporting Events,ย Practice Facilities,ย and Sports Bars…oh, and even Senior Living Centers–for those “not-so-young” prospectiveย membersย ๐Ÿ™‚ .ย  ย Our 2026 marketing brochure is available, along with our generic business card.ย  ย We will provide you with as many as you like of eitherย ofย these…just let us know.

We also realize thatย the best way for growth to occur is through YOUR โ€œWORD OF MOUTH”.ย  So, please assist us, and the league, by talking about and promoting the KCMSSL at any and every opportunity.ย  If you have a contact for us to reach out to, please let us know.ย  If youโ€™d like to help in any other way, please contact Barry Gordon: barrygordo@aol.com; 913.827.7722.ย  Thank you for your assistance.ย  Together we will grow.

2026ย  MEMBERSHIPย  DUESย  &ย  DRAFTย  CONFERENCEย  FEES

League Sheets (our membership database) has been updatedย to reflect our 2026ย Spring session.ย  Thoseย wishing to pay their dues online areย now able to do so–just click here:ย  https://leaguesheets.com/league/6.ย  ย Please note, our Waiver / Liability form’s verbiage has changed.ย  Therefore, if your plan is to pay yourย dues “online”, you will need to initial the updated waiver / liability form (attached to your online record) before being able to pay.

Wish to pay your Draft conference fee online??ย  ย You will, eventually, be able to do so.ย  HOWEVER, the various Parks & Recreation Departmentsย have not yet providedย us withย their 2026ย costs forย eachย “draft” conference.ย  For that reason, youย will not beย able to seeย orย pay anyย individual “draft conferenceย fee” amountย at this time.ย  ย If you plan to play Draft in 2026ย andย wish to pay your “membership dues”ย online at this time, you mayย do so.ย  You simply are NOTย yetย able to pay any additionalย draft conference fee(s) at this time.ย  If you wish to pay your dues and draft fees at the same time, then we suggest you simply wait until we have those fees added to League Sheets.ย  Then you can make oneย single online payment (dues and draft conferenceย fees).ย  ย We will make everyone aware, in a future newsletter,ย when both fees are available to you so you can make that single payment.

LIFETIMEย  MEMBERSย

If you are a KCMSSL Lifetime Member–meaning you have “already” paid your annual membership dues ONCE at the age of 75ย or older–you are considered a Lifetime Member…and need not pay yourย annual KCMSSL membership dues again.ย  ย However, in order for youย to participate / play in the KCMSSL in 2026, you will need to notify Barry Gordon –ย barrygordo@aol.com –ย 913.827.7722, or Clint Berger – clintberger@hotmail.com – 913.481.7937, so that your membership record can be designated accordingly.ย  ย If your record is NOTย updated, your manager will not be able to add you to his / her team roster, which is necessary for several reasons.

TWASย  THEย  NIGHTย  BEFOREย  CHRISTMAS

Thanks to Alan Edwards for providing us his version of “Twas Theย Night Before Christmas” (below).ย  ย And with that being said,ย we leave you with our wishes for Happy Holidaysย to youย and ALLย your loved ones.ย  ย Hope to see you, once again, on the field in 2026.

‘Twas the night before Christmas; the weather was too cold,
For stories of glory, yet untold.

The bats were all racked, the gloves set with care,
In hopes that the new spring season soon would be there.

The players were dreaming, all snug in their beds,
While visions of home runs danced in their heads,

And the wife in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter’s napโ€”

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the luster of midday to objects below,

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a vision of April, drawing so near,

With a message of promise, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Saint Nick.

More rapid than eagles, his teams, they came,
He whistled and shouted and called them by name:

“Now Wonders! Now Divas! Now Legends, swing for the fences!
On Diamonds! Onย Dawgs! A new season commences!

From the Kansas side of the diamond to the Missouri side of the field!
Let’s find us an umpire; our mission is revealed!”

The letter he carried was clear in its plea.
For a safe, fun environment for folks just like me.

A thousand good players, from thirty-five to ninety-five years,
To banish the winter and quiet our fears.

The season runs long, from April to October, he said.
With thoughts of base stealing right in my head.

Three fields on one side and three on the other,
Where grandpas play ball with their grandsonโ€™s dear mother.

And laying a finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh; to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sightโ€”
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
And we’ll see you on the diamond come April’s first light!”
